Which celebrities have admitted to a porn problem?

Terry Crews confessed a decades-long porn addiction on Facebook in 2016, went to rehab, and now speaks out to help other men. Josh Duggar was exposed through the Ashley Madison leak and later sentenced to 12 years in prison for child sexual abuse material. Tiger Woods entered a sexual addiction treatment center in 2010. Russell Brand is also among them.

Pornography affects men (and women) from the home to Hollywood. In fact, many of our nation’s top celebrities have admitted the damaging impact of pornography in their lives.

A look at these five Hollywood actors and celebrities who have admitted to problems with pornography offers insight and hope for those who face a similar battle in their own lives.

NFL Star And Actor Terry Crews

Former NFL star and actor Terry Crews (known to many for his humorous Old Spice commercials) publicly confessed his decades-long porn addiction on Facebook in 2016. He notes:

“For years, years, years, my dirty little secret was that I was addicted to pornography. It really, really messed up my life in a lot of ways.”

In Crews’ case, his acknowledgment of the problem led him to seek rehab and work toward recovery. His wife supported his recovery with the couple growing stronger. Crews now speaks out to help other men confront and conquer the battle against pornography.

Reality TV Star Josh Duggar

One of the biggest headlines of 2015 included the release of leaked accounts from the affair-promoting website AshleyMadison. 19 Kids and Counting star Josh Duggar was discovered with two accounts on the site, leading to an eventual confession of a secret addiction to pornography.

In Duggar’s case, the consequences were both personal and professional. In addition to destroying his family, the news ended his job at the Family Research Council. Duggar was sentenced to 12 years in prison for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material (child porn).

Golf Superstar Tiger Woods

In 2010 golf superstar Tiger Woods spent time at a sexual addiction treatment center, admitting both an addiction to pornography and other sexual problems, according to Time magazine. In his case, pornography served as part of a larger sexual addiction that included infidelity to his wife.

The public release of the information led to a humiliating time for Woods, in addition to a divorce. Though he later returned to the golf course, his life and family suffered serious consequences.

“There’s always the boy who has the big brother who has the magazine under his bed. That’s how it starts. So the first time I ever saw one, I was around 8 or 9. I saw my first magazine, and from there I was addicted.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Does fame or money protect you from porn addiction?

No. Pornography affects men and women from the home to Hollywood, and several of the country's best-known figures have admitted the damage it did in their lives. One of them likened its pull to a drug that would call to him in the night, and said the battle almost cost him everything. Status changes the size of the headline, not the grip of the addiction underneath it.

How young are most men when they first see porn?

Often far younger than parents assume. Gospel artist Kirk Franklin told CBN's Scott Ross, "There's always the boy who has the big brother who has the magazine under his bed. That's how it starts. So the first time I ever saw one, I was around 8 or 9. I saw my first magazine, and from there I was addicted." That pattern is common enough to be predictable.

What happens when a porn addiction becomes public?

The consequences reach well past embarrassment. Among the men in this article, one lost his job and devastated his family after leaked account data exposed him, and was later sentenced to 12 years in prison on child sexual abuse material charges. Another went through a public humiliation and a divorce. Exposure does not create the damage; it reveals damage that was already being done.

Can a marriage survive a porn addiction?

It can. Terry Crews, the former NFL star and actor, confessed publicly, "For years, years, years, my dirty little secret was that I was addicted to pornography. It really, really messed up my life in a lot of ways." He went to rehab, his wife supported him through recovery, the couple grew stronger, and he now speaks out to help other men. Others in the article saw their marriages end.

What does the Bible say about breaking free from porn?

Romans 12:1-2 calls you to offer your body as a living sacrifice and to stop conforming to the pattern of this world, being transformed instead by the renewing of your mind. Ephesians 4:22-24 says to put off the old self corrupted by deceitful desires, be made new in the attitude of your mind, and put on the new self created to be like God.
