Finding freedom — common questions

How do I get free from pornography?
Lasting freedom from pornography comes through transformation, not simply trying harder. The Conquer Series helps men renew their minds with biblical truth, understand how pornography affects the brain, identify the deeper issues driving unwanted behavior, and walk in authentic accountability. Rather than focusing only on stopping pornography, it helps men pursue lasting freedom through a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Many participants continue with Warpath after completing the Conquer Series to strengthen their discipleship, build lifelong habits, and continue growing in freedom.
How long does it take to overcome pornography addiction?
Every person's journey is different, so there is no guaranteed timeline. Most Conquer Series groups meet weekly and complete the course in about three months, but lasting transformation often continues long afterward. Freedom is not measured by completing a course but by ongoing growth in Christ, renewed thinking, and faithful community. Many graduates continue meeting through Warpath, recognizing that freedom is a lifelong pursuit of becoming more like Christ.
Why isn't willpower enough to stop watching porn?
Willpower may stop pornography for a time, but it cannot change the heart. The Conquer Series teaches that pornography creates unhealthy brain pathways while reinforcing lies, shame, isolation, and other spiritual and emotional struggles. Lasting freedom comes through renewing the mind with God's Word, replacing lies with truth, healing underlying wounds, and depending on the Holy Spirit. Behavior changes most deeply when the heart is transformed.
What should I do after a relapse?
Don't hide—reach out. One relapse doesn't erase the progress God has been doing in your life, but secrecy can quickly pull you back into old patterns. Tell your accountability partner or group leader, receive God's forgiveness, learn from what happened, and keep moving forward. The Conquer Series teaches that lasting freedom grows through honesty, humility, and biblical community, not through pretending you've never struggled.
Can a marriage recover from pornography use?
Many marriages have been restored after pornography, but healing takes time for both husband and wife. The husband needs genuine repentance and lasting transformation, while the wife often needs healing from betrayal trauma. Soul Refiner offers separate courses because each journey is different. The Conquer Series helps men find freedom from pornography, while From the Ashes helps wives process betrayal, rebuild trust, and experience healing in Christ. As both spouses pursue healing, many marriages grow stronger than before.
Do I need a group, or can I do this on my own?
While you can complete the Conquer Series on your own, lasting freedom is usually strengthened through biblical community. Addiction grows in isolation, but healing happens through honest relationships, accountability, encouragement, and prayer. Small groups provide a safe place to share struggles and celebrate victories with men pursuing the same goal. Many graduates continue meeting through Warpath because ongoing brotherhood helps them maintain long-term freedom.
Is pornography addiction real?
Many people experience pornography as a compulsive behavior they cannot stop despite sincerely wanting to. Whether it's described as an addiction, compulsive sexual behavior, or habitual sin, the result is often the same—repeated failure and growing shame. The Conquer Series focuses less on labels and more on understanding how pornography affects the brain and how Christ transforms lives through biblical truth, accountability, and renewed thinking. If you're facing severe mental health challenges, a trusted Christian counselor can also be an important part of your recovery.
What happens after I finish the Conquer Series?
The Conquer Series is designed to build a foundation for freedom, not mark the end of the journey. Many graduates continue with Warpath, an ongoing discipleship course that helps men deepen their relationship with Christ, develop lasting spiritual disciplines, strengthen accountability, and continue growing in freedom. The goal isn't simply quitting pornography—it's becoming the man God created you to be.
How do I help my husband overcome pornography?
You cannot force your husband to change, but you can encourage him to seek help and walk toward healing. The Conquer Series provides men with a proven biblical pathway to freedom through teaching, accountability, and community. At the same time, wives often need their own support because pornography causes real betrayal trauma. From the Ashes was created specifically to help wives process their pain, rebuild trust, and find healing regardless of where their husband is in his recovery.
What is betrayal trauma?
Betrayal trauma is the deep emotional, relational, and spiritual pain experienced after discovering a spouse's pornography use or sexual betrayal. Many wives describe feelings of grief, anxiety, confusion, and loss of trust. These reactions are normal and deserve care rather than dismissal. From the Ashes provides biblical teaching, practical tools, and supportive community to help wives heal while allowing their husbands to focus on their own recovery through the Conquer Series.
How do I start a Conquer Series group at my church?
You don't have to be an expert to lead a Conquer Series group. Every session includes cinematic teaching, discussion questions, and leader resources that make facilitating simple. Many churches begin with just a handful of men who are ready to pursue freedom together. As participants complete the Conquer Series, many groups continue meeting through Warpath, creating an ongoing discipleship ministry that helps men remain connected, accountable, and growing in Christ.
What's the difference between the Conquer Series, Warpath, and From the Ashes?
Each course serves a different purpose. The Conquer Series is the starting point for men seeking freedom from pornography and sexual addiction. Warpath is the next step, helping men continue growing as disciples of Christ through ongoing accountability, spiritual disciplines, and authentic brotherhood. From the Ashes is designed specifically for wives recovering from betrayal trauma, providing biblical guidance and a supportive community for healing. Together, these courses offer a comprehensive pathway for individuals, marriages, and churches pursuing lasting freedom and restoration.
Is watching pornography a sin?
The Bible doesn't specifically mention internet pornography, but it speaks clearly about lust, sexual immorality, and guarding the heart and mind. Jesus taught that lustful thoughts are matters of the heart, not merely outward actions (Matthew 5:27–28). Pornography distorts God's design for sexuality, damages relationships, and separates us from the abundant life Christ desires for us. The good news is that no one is beyond God's grace. Through repentance, biblical community, and discipleship through the Conquer Series, countless men have experienced forgiveness, healing, and lasting freedom.
